Dental Sealants:

Sealants are used to fill in the "grooves" and "pits" on the chewing surfaces of back teeth to prevent decay. These grooves can be too narrow for the toothbrush bristles to clean effectively, but not too narrow for cavity-causing bacteria. The sealant material used is generally a liquid plastic resin that is “painted” onto the tooth and then hardened with a UV light. This procedure is primarily used on children.
