Amalgam Fillings:
For over 100 years, dental amalgam has been the most widely used, and the most extensively researched, filling material. Amalgam can withstand the constant pressure of chewing, and yet is extremely malleable when being placed. Compared to other filling materials, dental amalgam is much less expensive, highly resistant to wear, and has a longer life span.
Tooth-Colored (Composite) Fillings:
Tooth-Colored (Composite) fillings have been primarily used on front teeth where appearance is very important. However, newer Composite materials are much stronger and much susceptible to staining than in the past. Composite filling materials are acrylic resin compounds that are chemically bonded to the tooth. Composite can be used for small or medium sized fillings. They are much more aesthetically pleasing than amalgam and can be matched in color to your own teeth making them virtually invisible. |

Full Dentures:
Full dentures replace all of your teeth. Full dentures are designed to fit onto the boney ridge where the teeth were held. They can be conventional dentures, immediate dentures, or overdentures.
A conventional denture is generally made approximately two months after the teeth were removed to allow time for the tissues and bone to heal. After the teeth are removed, the tissues and bone shrink back as they heal. Sometimes a temporary denture that only has a few teeth can be worn during the healing period.
An immediate denture can be made and placed immediately after teeth have been removed. With an immediate denture, you are not without teeth during the healing period. Immediate dentures will need to be relined after the healing period. An overdenture is designed to fit over the roots of the remaining teeth or over dental implants. Roots of teeth can be retained after root canal treatment in order to prevent the bone from shrinking and resorbing as it does when the teeth are removed. Roots of teeth, or dental implants, can also be fitted with precision attachments to hold the denture in place.
